STEFANO SALETTI (1964) is an Italian artist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, researcher and great admirer of the Mediterranean. On his travels through the Mediterranean, getting to know the diverse cultures of this vast area, Stefano gained inspiration for a series of wonderful albums, and while reading one book on one occasion, he learned about the existence of Sabir, an old, lost contact language spoken in Mediterranean ports, by sailors, pirates, fishermen, traders and ship owners.

That knowledge started him on a new cycle of travel and research, focused on this specific “Esperanto” which, based on a mixture of Spanish, Italian, French and Arabic languages, had its own intensive, centuries-long life and development.

The Lecture SABIR – THE LOST LANGUAGE OF THE MEDITERRANEAN”, which will be held in Novi Sad, in the Zenit Books bookstore and bar, on November 11, 2023, starting at 12 noon, as a kind of addition to the premiere concert of Stefano Saletti & Banda Ikona in Serbia, will be an opportunity for the local audience to learn about many features, secrets and interesting facts of this language, as well as Stefano’s creative approach regarding the use of Sabir in his own music.

The lecture is in English and is an open one, so anyone interested can attend. Entrance is free.
