Multi-instrumentalist and virtuoso Tcha Limberger is recognized as one of the most prominent and important figures on the folk music scene of the Carpathian Basin. This style, which is played by the Roma in the Transylvania region called Kalotaszeg and whose repertoire comes from Hungarian, Romanian and Roma culture, is considered the most beautiful of all Hungarian music.

“This music is little known and I will perform it the way it really should be played” – says Tcha – “This music follows the lives of many, from baptism to the grave, celebrating coexistence and bringing together the people of Kalotaszeg.”

Ever since he picked up his first instrument, the guitar, composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist Tcha Limberger soon began to gain great praise. He is one of the few world-class musicians who is accepted and respected on a music scene to which he does not belong by birth and cultural heritage. He is very active with his own Transylvanian Kalotaszeg Trio, but also with the Budapest Gypsy Orchestra, and his approach to teaching almost forgotten traditional music has made him one of the most prominent and “important figures in the folk music of the Carpathian Basin”.

His work has received worldwide acclaim from professionals and audiences alike. Critics commenting on Tcha’s achievements claim that he is “completely made of music”, the “Polymath-king of Roma music”, while his fellow musicians call him “the fifth element”.

Limberger was born into a Belgian family of famous Manush musicians. He grew up in the world of Django Reinhart’s gypsy swing style and over the years has collaborated with many leading representatives of this genre.

His eclectic musical taste, interests and passions were formed from early childhood, when he sang flamenco accompanying himself on the guitar at his first solo concert at the age of eight. He shows a constant fascination and love for traditional music from all over the world. For a long time he led a music-oriented band in Belgium playing the music of the Aymara and Quechua Indians of Bolivia.

He studied modern classical composition with the Belgian composer Dick Vanderharst, and Tcha’s compositional debut was the music for the dance performance of Les ballets C de la B called “Patchagonia” , directed by Lisi Estaras. Two current projects include I Silenti, a collaboration with Fabrizio Casola, and the acclaimed swing band Les Violons de Bruxelles.

Tcha Limberger studied the music of Kalotaszeg with his mentor, the legendary Sandor Netti, and the style of Magyar Nóta from Budapest, with the famous violin player Bela Horvath. Both musicians contributed to Tcha gaining recognition as an exceptional and enthusiastic teacher, who often holds master classes and leads interactive workshops in the sphere of jazz and folk music of Central Europe.
