In 2005, Dragan Ristić graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in the Department of Theater, Radio and Culture Management and Production. He comes from a musical family (his father and grandfather played the violin), and his first love was the accordion, which he started playing at the age of seven. However, he turned to the guitar at the age of fifteen when he realized that more modern rhythms attracted him more than traditional ones.

He founded the Kal group in 1996 (in the Greek language “kal” means – good road, and in Sanskrit and Romani – black). Dragan is the author of all the songs and arrangements of the band, he is the lead vocalist and guitarist.

In addition to music, Dragan Ristić is involved in acting, theater production and performance. He also collaborated in some films as a translator for the Romani language . For the film “Black Cat, White Cat” by Emir Kusturica, he wrote the lyrics for the song “Bubamara” , which became a hit. The Kal group also performed at the first film and music festival “Küstendorf” in 2008.

As a long-time fighter for the human rights of minorities in Serbia, Dragan started the “FRKA” festival in Belgrade (Festival of Roma Culture and Activism) in 2014, with the idea of ​​encouraging Roma to become more involved in social processes.

In the sea of ​​activities in the field of society and culture , from the end of the nineties until today, Dragan, among other things, worked as a journalist and translator for the Roma newspapers “Romano lil” and “Chavrikanolil”, then as an announcer, journalist and translator for the Roma program of Radio Belgrade , participated in the performance, organization, translation and music for the Roma puppet show “Sasa pe jekhivend” (Once upon a winter), he worked as a composer, producer and actor in the theater play “Blood Wedding” by Frederic García Lorca at the Vareso Aver Roma Theater in Budapest…

So far, he has published three publications : “Roma media in Yugoslavia: development and possibilities” (1997), “History of Romani theater” (1999) and “Roma music as part of mainstream culture” (2022).
